RURALS

During the academic year 2010, as part of our syllabus, we conducted a rural study in the villages of Kali and Anandhathandavapuram. 80 students were accompanied by 5 staffs during the week long case study. We categorized the study into various aspects, including: Technical, Physical and Social. This ensured that we covered all the major aspects of village life, ranging from the fundamental village layout to detailed analysis of the various construction techniques employed by the local residents to build their homes. Apart from this, we also covered the daily activities and functioning of several buildings in the locality, such as the Panchayat office. Accommodation was at a nearby hotel, with the agency concerned providing excellent food and transport services. Our dedicated staff cross checked our works to ensure that we were heading in the right direction, and we rewarded their patience and efforts by producing drawings and manual works to the best of our abilities. It was a very educative case study, which was followed up a tour of the city. We enjoyed it and learnt a lot from our case studies and tours.
